Celebrate Kansas Day 2020 at WU

Dr. Rex Buchanan, Director Emeritus of the Kansas Geological Survey will be giving a public presentation on “Glyphs, Grasslands, and Waterways: Special Places in Kansas and Why They’re so Important.” The presentation will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29 in the Rita Blitt Gallery.

Stuff the Bus

Topeka Metro will be gathering non-perishable food items and cash donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Fairlawn Plaza Dillons. The donations will benefit Project Topeka Community Food Drive.

Friends of the library book and media sale

The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library will be hosting a book and media sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 1 and from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 2. Sunday will have a special bag sale where one only has to pay $10 for the provided tote bag and can fill up that bag with as many books as they can fit. Come to the Marvin Auditorium at the public library to purchase your books or on Amazon within The Friends of the library bookstore. The Chandler Booktique in the public library also hosts a half price book day on the last day of every month from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

WUmester Mondays at Mabee Series

The series will feature “Civic Engagement in the Hashtag Age,” presented by Michaela Saunders, communications coordinator and assistant to the dean for the College of Arts and Sciences. The event will be from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 in the Mabee Library living room.

League of Women Voters Tuesday Topics

From noon to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4 the League of Women Voters will be hosting Marty Patterson, a Brown v. Board Sumner Legacy Trust board member Greater Topeka Partnership award of excellence honoree, at the Shawnee County Public Library. During the hour, they will discuss how students navigated through desegregation in Topeka. The event is free and open to the public. A catered lunch for the cost of $10 is also available to the public prior to the event at 11:30 a.m.

2020 State of the Union Watch Party

The Washburn University College Republicans will be hosting a watch party for the 2020 State of the Union Address from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 in Henderson 112. There will be free pizza, and be prepared to engage in civil discussions.

Washburn Day of Giving and Founder’s Day
