Blues score two goals in 17 seconds to down Emporia
The Washburn Lady Blues continued to rocket down the comeback trail this week by defeating Northwest Missouri State University 2-1 in double overtime on Sept. 23 and Emporia State University 2-1 on Sept. 25. The Lady Blues drew first blood against Northwest Missouri early in the second half with a goal from fielders Leah Talley and Tia Stovall. Northwest Missouri tied the score in the 75th minute and the game was sent into overtime. After neither team scored in the first ten minutes of overtime, Washburn finally connected. Stovall scored the winning goal on an assist from Taylor Mayhew, midfield defender, giving the Lady Blues a 2-1 win.
In some cases, big packages come in small containers. Such is the case of one stalwart of the Washburn Lady Blues soccer team. Stefanie Stuever, a sophomore midfielder for the Lady Blues, has pursued things always with determination and passion. One of the things that has been intertwined in her life has been soccer. Starting in kindergarten, Stuever began playing the sport as it started to develop into a passion for her. While other children play a variety of sports, she focused in on soccer as the one sport that she dedicated her time and efforts toward.

In the Blues' home-opener last Thursday, Washburn was held scoreless for the second consecutive game, losing 2-0 to Missouri Southern (2-2-1, 2-0-1) thanks to scores by Lindsay Altman and Danai Noftz.

Four teams express interest in expanding conference from 12 schools to 16
Less than a month after Nebraska and Colorado left the Big 12 for the Big Ten and Pac 10, respectively, conference expansion is once again an area of interest—this time in Division II. The MIAA, which is officially expanding to 12 schools this school year in every sport but football, is considering the addition of a few more schools than originally planned. Lincoln, a member of the MIAA for 29 years until it left in 1999 to join the Heartland Conference, is returning to the MIAA in all sports except football, which will not become affiliated with the MIAA until the 2011 season.
