Ichabods extend win streak with 60-49 win

Two players with double-doubles for Washburn against UNO

The Washburn Ichabods (10-8, 4-7) were victorious Saturday night against Nebraska-Omaha (14-4, 7-4, third place in MIAA), winning 60-49. The Bods have a tough road ahead of them before the MIAA tournament begins March 5.

Junior forward De'Andre Washington (2) was one of two players to achieve a double-double Saturday night against Nebraska-Omaha with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Washington, the third highest scorer in the MIAA, averages 18.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

The Washburn Ichabods (10-8, 4-7) strung together their third straight victory Saturday night with a 60-49 win against Nebraska-Omaha (14-4, 7-4, third in MIAA) in Lee Arena.

Led by junior forward De'Andre Washington, who had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, the Ichabods overcame a bad shooting night and a much more athletic UNO team to get the win. Shooting 22-66 from the field, including 4-20 from the three point line, the Ichabods were blocked nine times and were victims to a demonstrative alley-oop. However, the Bods managed to outrebound the Mavericks 46-41 and actually shot a better percentage from the field, with UNO shooting 17-57.

Two Ichabod guards - sophomore William McNeill and junior Maurice Colter - also scored in double digits, with McNeill scoring 16 points and collecting 10 rebounds for his own double-double and Colter dropping 13 points, two assists and a steal on UNO. McNeill and Washington had two steals apiece.

The Ichabods will next face Northwest Missouri State (9-9, 4-7) this Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Arena before a two-game roadtrip to Missouri Western (12-6, 7-4) and last-place Truman State (3-15, 1-10). The schedule for the Ichabods gets no kinder following the roadtrip, as Washburn returns home for a stint against the three of the MIAA's top four teams: No. 5 Fort Hays State (16-1, 10-0, first in MIAA), No. 7 Central Missouri (17-1, 10-1, second in MIAA) and No. 24 Southwest Baptist (16-5, 7-4, fourth in MIAA). Washburn is currently ranked seventh in the MIAA, and has nine games left until the MIAA tournament.
