Washburn Scorch on the Porch Welcome Week Edition
Washburn University held their first Scorch on the Porch for the semester on a beautiful August 19, 2011. Scorch on the Porch provided live music for students, faculty and staff, as well as food and a spots where they could buy Washburn merchandise from the Washburn Bookstore as well as Kaw yearbooks from Washburn Student Media.

Greek recruitment efforts are moving into high gear at Washburn University with the start of the 2011 fall semester. Sorority chapters across the campus will hold their formal recruitment events in early September, but students are already lining up to get involved.
Getting involved, supporting other students and colleagues and getting educated is all part of the college experience according to Mark Norman, who is about to go into his third year as the director of bands at Washburn University.

Last Friday, Washburn staff members and students gathered on the north Union lawn to witness the introduction of the new and improved Ichabod mascot.
Following the appearance of Jerry Farley, Washburn President, and the cheers of eager staff members and alumni, the mascot danced and posed his way down the aisle in a grand attempt to show off his classic, yet updated, new look.
Welcome Week included many activities for making new students comfortable with the Washburn environment. Even the Memorial Union pitched in with that Friday's Scorch on the Porch, hosted on the steps of the Union for a crowd of students, faculty and staff.
