BLOG: Mars Chocolate expected to bring jobs and revenue to Topeka

Mike Wittman, vice president of Supply at Mars Chocolate North America and Kansas Governor Sam Brownback made a major announcement on the campus of Washburn University this morning that Mars Chocolate North America Will open a production facility in Topeka.

I think this is exciting news for Topeka and Shawnee County, especially after being turned down by Google. I know one of the main reasons that Topeka wanted Google to pick them for the really fast internet and would bring businesses to Topeka creating more jobs.

According to officials this will bring 974 jobs and $31 million in net revenue to Shawnee County and will be located at Kanza Fire Commerce Park.

With the way the economy has been these last three years this is certainly the right move for Shawnee County.

Congresswoman Jenkins released the following statement upon the announcement:

"I am so pleased to welcome the good people at Mars to the great state of Kansas. This is a great day for the Topeka community and the state of Kansas. Soon after his inauguration, Governor Brownback made it clear that Kansas was open for business, and today's announcement demonstrates that he has truly begun creating a climate of growth that will bring good jobs into our state. I want to congratulate the Topeka Chamber of Commerce, GO Topeka, the Topeka Public School system, and the Topeka community for all their hard work making Topeka so welcoming to new business, and of course I want to thank Mars for investing in our community. M&M's have always been my personal favorite, and knowing that they will now be bringing jobs to Kansas makes them even sweeter."
