Misadventures at Buzz Under the Stars Night 2
So this is a bit late but I wanted to write about this anyway. On Saturday July 11, my best guy friend and I went and saw Sublime with Rome, Dirty Heads and Matisyahu in concert for Buzz Under the Stars Night 2.
A good friend of mine, and many of my friends, died earlier this summer and I remember she was super excited about the concert. I wanted to go in her memory since we had planned on it while she was still alive.
So at 3 pm that day, my friend and I decided we should go. We made it to City Market in record time. Forty minutes, I believe. Don’t speed Kids. LOL
Music definitely soothes the savage beast or at least the beast in me. I have always been particularly partial to alternative music, nineties alternative to be exact. I first heard Sublime when I was in elementary school. I had a friend whose older brother listened to Sublime and so we listened to his CD when he wasn’t home. I was curious to see how Rome would do as a singer in place of Brad Nowell. For those of you too young to remember, I am barely old enough myself, Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996. I was 10 years old. It was amazing how much they sound alike! Amazing!
I had never heard the Dirty Heads before that night and my friend and I were both absolutely blown away. If you haven’t listened to them check them out. My two favorite songs are: “Lay Me Down” and “Check the Level.”
I also was pretty unfamiliar with Matisyahu. He was also amazing but I spent most of his stage time trying to reconnect with my friend, who I lost after the Dirty Heads played and I went to get a drink of water. I want to take the time to listen more thoroughly.
By the time Sublime took the stage, I gave up on trying to relocate him. I ended up finding a group of barefoot hippies dancing in the back and I joined them. I sang and danced with these strangers and by the end of the concert, we had dubbed ourselves “the original five dance party members.” People walking by would come and dance with us before moving on. We even had total strangers taking our pictures. I have no idea what happened to those. We had a passerby take a picture of us at the end of the show. So a love of music and dancing made me four new friends. I felt like I was dancing in honor of my friend, who passed earlier this summer, and that was kind of healing in itself. She would have loved it. She had a wonderful energy and life about her. I miss her lots.
Going to concerts always proves to be a wonderful experience. By the way, always arrange a meeting spot for you and your friends for the end of the show. If I wouldn’t have done that, I would have totally stressed out trying to find my friend at the end of the show. I encourage everyone to go to concerts whenever possible. I also encourage you to be silly and have as much fun and laughter as possible. Life is way too short to worry about what everyone is going to think if you cut loose. Don’t be reckless, but have fun as often as you can. I think everything can be fun, if you let it.
